University of Oulu

UOULU is a multidisciplinary university with 16,000 students and over 3,000 employees located in the north of Finland. The university has ten faculties, which range from humanities and medicine to business, science and technology. UOULU has a proven track record of participating in the EU Framework programmes throughout their evolution. Since FP4 UOULU has been a part of more than 250 projects and networks, of which over 30 have been coordinated by UOULU. University of Oulu has currently some 45 on-going H2020 projects of which 11 are MSCA: 4 IF, 4 ITN, 1 COFUND, 1 RISE and 1 NIGHT. UOULU is also a core partner within EIT KIC RawMaterials. The Fiber and Particle Engineering Unit (FPE) led by Prof Mirja Illikainen carries out research in the field of biomaterials and biochemical as well as advanced inorganic materials in circular economy. FPE consists of two full professors, four senior researchers, 17 doctoral students and 15 postdocs. FPE works in close collaboration with industrial companies in several regionally and nationally funded projects. This project complements the previous and on-going activities related to inorganic polymers and nanocellulosic biomaterials.
